Homestead Food Production in Cambodia: A Mapping Report

Abstract:

Micronutrient malnutrition is a serious public health problem in Cambodia and the situation in Cambodia is among the most critical in the region. Helen Keller International/ Cambodia promotes homestead food production (HFP) and programs to enhance it, such as improved food security, better social/gender equity, poverty reduction, establishment of support services, and micro enterprise development, as a strategy to reduce micronutrient malnutrition in Cambodia. There are a number of different organizations currently implementing HFP activities in Cambodia with various objectives. This homestead food production review was undertaken with the aim to assess objectives, implementation details, management of inputs, existing monitoring system and evaluate how the programs addressed their objectives. Based on the review, needs, priorities and recommendations for effective homestead food production in Cambodia are presented.
