Fish and other Aquatic Animals Play a Major Role for Food and Nutrition Security in Cambodia

Abstract:

The paper determines the importance of fish and other aquatic animals (OAA) for the food and nutrition security of the population of rural Cambodia. In a longitudinal survey in Svay Rieng province the consumption of fish and OAA was determined and qualitative interviews on food consumption patterns were conducted. Furthermore, nutrient analyses of the most consumed species of fish and OAA were carried out. Fish and OAA contributed significantly to the intakes of animal protein, vitamin A, iron and calcium.
