Summary of Human Pandemic Avian Influenza (HPAI) in Vietnam

Abstract:

From 19 December 2006 to 18 January 2007, the update provides information on Vietnamese communes and districts which is under 21 days of monitoring. In certain circumstances, there were worries that bird flu vaccine cannot prevent poultry from being infected with H5N1 and a new type of vaccine was supposed to be launched as soon as possible. Vietnamese Prime Minister urged relevant agencies to consider bird flu prevention as their key task in order to quickly contain the emerging outbreak. In the same month, The Veterinary Department under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) also warned that a bird flu epidemic could turn into a pandemic in as little as one month
