"A consultation on the role of a national social protection strategy in augmenting human capital through promoting education and reducing child labor and eliminating its worst forms will be organized by the Council for Agricultural and Rural Development (CARD) on 3- 4th of February 2010 at Phnom Penh Hotel in Phnom Penh. The closing ceremony of the workshop will be presided over by H.E. Yim Chhay Ly, Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of CARD.
The workshop on promoting education and reducing child labor is the third event in a sequence of technical consultations organized in the context of the development of an integrated social protection strategy for the poor and vulnerable in Cambodia. Since early 2009 CARD coordinates efforts of government institutions and development partners to elaborate an integrated social protection strategy to protect the poor and vulnerable against risks and shocks and equally expand their human capital. After the national forum on social safety nets from July last year, a consultation on cash transfers focusing on child nutrition and maternal health and a consultation on public works were organized.
The technical consultation workshop on 3-4th of February involves the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport, the Ministry of Labor and Vocational Training, the Ministry of Social Affairs, Veterans and Youth Rehabilitation and the Ministry of Women Affairs and is supported by ILO, UNESCO, WFP, UNICEF, World Bank, AusAid and other development partners.Source institution:
