The principal objective of Community Health Education related to maternal{comma} infant and young child nutrition is:
 

  • by 2015{comma} 5{comma}000 community members will have increased knowledge and improved practices in maternal and child nutrition{comma} breastfeeding and the 3 food groups.

 

The proposed activities including in Community Health Education Program are:

  • Each year{comma} 20 Peace Corps Volunteers (PCVs) and their counterparts will observe and investigate community eating habits and popular dishes during pregnancy and lactation.
  • Each year{comma} 20 Peace Corps Volunteers and their counterparts will observe and investigate local breastfeeding{comma} weaning and early feeding practices.
  • Each year{comma} 20 Peace Corps Volunteers and their counterparts will identify and promote appropriate locally available food for a balanced diet{comma} taking into consideration seasonal variation and financial resources.
  • Each year{comma} 20 Peace Corps Volunteers and their counterparts will implement Behavior Change Commication (BCC) activities with pregnant women on proper nutrition during pregnancy{comma} including food rich in iron and vitamin A.
  • Each year{comma} 20 Peace Corps Volunteers and their counterparts will implement BCC activities with mothers on important infant and young child feeding practices including exclusive breastfeeding{comma} proper weaning techniques and how to prepare nutritious meals.
  • Each year{comma} 20 Peace Corps Volunteers and their counterparts will conduct child growth monitoring promotion activities.
