Project Description

The specific objective of the project’s nutrition component is to improve dietary diversity and family feeding practices{comma} starting with IYCF{comma} of rural populations affected by the volatile food prices{comma} who are currently benefiting from FAO EU Food Facility -supported food security enhancement initiatives. It also includes increased productivity{comma} improved management practices and improved access to agricultural inputs and services.

In order to achieve the above objectives{comma} FAO has provided fund to MoWA to support a few key major activities stated below:


  • Organizing{comma} in close collaboration with the 11 master trainers already trained by the project{comma} 4 multi-sectoral provincial/district 5-day training courses{comma} two in the southern and 2 in the northern provinces{comma} to train a total of 99 TIPs facilitators (44 in the south and 55 in the north){comma} on the implementation of trials of improved practices (TIPs){comma} following the nutrition training strategy developed by the project.
  • Facilitating the implementation{comma} monitoring and evaluation of trials of improved nutrition practices in approx. 360 households in 9 provinces selected to participate in TIPs on the basis of criteria provided by the project. The TIPs facilitators will develop in consultation with the community-based nutrition promoters a priority list of improved complementary feeding recipes{comma} which participating caregivers consider practical and feasible. A nutrient analysis will be carried out by the project to ensure their appropriateness and nutrient adequacy for the age groups concerned (i.e. children 6-24 months). Once adapted{comma} fine-tuned and found to be nutritionally adequate{comma} the recipes will be disseminated widely by community-based nutrition promoters in approximately 14{comma}000 households in 130 beneficiary communities (65 in the north and 65 in the south) through peer education and food preparation demonstrations (see LOA-PDoWA for details).


  • Organizing and facilitating a final TIPs evaluation for informing and feeding into future nutrition actions in Cambodia.
