The MDG-JP on Children{comma} Food Security and Nutrition in Cambodia was formulatedas a 3 year program (until 12/2012) with an overall budget of 5 Mill US$ funded by Spain. It is a coordinated operation of 6 UN agencies (UNICEF{comma} WHO{comma} FAO{comma} WFP{comma} ILO and UNESCO) in collaboration with 6 involved government institutions (Council for Agricultural and Rual Development{comma} Ministry of Health/National Mother and Child Health Center{comma} Ministry of Agriculture{comma} Forestry and Fisheries{comma} Ministry of Education{comma} Youth and Sports{comma} Ministry of Labor{comma} Vocational Training and Ministry of Information) with the overall objective to contribute to the attainment of the Cambodian Millennium Development Goals no. 1 (eradicate extreme poverty and hunger){comma} no. 4 (reduce child mortality) and no.5 (improve maternal health). The MDG-JP seeks to achieve this by strengtheningthe coordination of nutrition interventions across line ministries and UN organizations and by building of national capacity. The program will provide important experiences for expanding nutrition and food security interventions in the country in the future.


The program is concentrating on 1) improving infant and young child feeding practices through nationwide behavior change communication (BCC) and protecting vulnerable populations through an integrated comprehensive package of nutrition and food security interventions delivered with high coverage in two food‐insecure province (Svay Rieng and Kampong Speu) 2) advocating and mainstreaming access to food and nutrition into relevant policies (strengthening the implementation of existing nutrition{comma} food security and agricultural policies and develop new innovative policies addressing malnutrition). 3) Revising and strengthen the Health Information System (HIS) and improve coordination between existing monitoring systems{comma} including food security monitoring{comma} and establish a national Nutrition Surveillance System. CARD is co-chairing the MDG-JP.
