Project Description

The project goal is to contribute to the eradication of poverty and hunger though improved food security and enhanced livelihood options for Cambodian rural poor and women{comma} and to promote sustainable use of natural resources.

 

The project objective is to enable the subsistence farmers and vulnerable social groups{comma} especially women{comma} to increase their economic and social conditions through increased food production and income as well as through improved social cooperation.

 

Project activities: 

• Result 1:  Improved quantity and quality of the agricultural and ranching products achieved 

- Conducting training on production techniques to all interested farmers

- Identifying and selecting Farmer Promoters and building the capacity of Farmer Promoters. 

- Supporting Farmer Promoters to organize their own learning group

- Support the establishment of demonstration farms in the village

- Organizing an exposure visit for cooperating farmers and farmer promoters. 

- Organizing cross-visits and field days to see successful farmers in the villages with the participation of villagers as well as the village chief. 

- Providing learning materials to cooperating farmer and farmer promoters. 

- Training addressed to Commune Council for improving knowledge on ecological agriculture and participatory rural development.

Result 2: Improved access to capital for investment in agriculture and small business through setting up of collective saving groups.

- Facilitate setting up saving group

- Providing capacity building to the management committee of the saving group. 

- Organizing an exposure visit for management committee members of saving group.

Result 3: Improved  Social  and political conditions of women in the target area

- Capacity building to women group representatives on gender{comma} social and politic empowerment. 

- Supporting women representatives to organize the training to members. 

- Facilitate meetings between women representatives and the representatives of local government agencies{comma} such as commune woman and children focal point{comma} district office of women affairs and provincial department of women affairs.  

- Organize exchange visits among women leaders from different districts. Facilitate the women group representatives to participate in the monthly meeting of the commune council as well as the process of commune investment program development.

Result 4: Participation of the local population in  the decision making process for including economic opportunities{comma} local demands and gender approach in development plans recognized by the local authorities.  

- Training addressed to Commune Councils and village chiefs for

improving knowledge of their functions and responsibilities{comma} and

clarifying the mechanisms for public participation and accountability

established by D&D

- Training addressed to Commune Council for improving knowledge on gender.

- Organize commune forum that allows the citizens and local governments to meet and discuss what has been happening in their area and how to find alternatives.
